Social Responsibility

The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa is committed to ensuring that our operations are conducted in a responsible manner that assist the long-term sustainability of the very special environment in which we are fortunate to live and work. We operate in a sensitive location on the edge of the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary, and we support a number of meaningful initiatives that help to preserve this wonderful environment for the enjoyment of our guests, local community and associates for generations to come.

Key elements of our environmental programs include:

We have a long and proud history of conserving environmental resources, and have thorough environmental sustainability programs in place for all our associates to participate in. These programs include resource conservation, recycling, local and sustainable food procurement, environmentally friendly cleaning supplies and waste water programs. We were early adopters of, and active participants in, the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program to promote sustainable seafood. In addition, our geographic region has scarce freshwater resources, and we participate in strict water conservation programs throughout all areas of the hotel. We also offer complimentary electric charging stations in our parking garage. As a result of these initiatives, we are a Certified Green Business by the Bay Area Green Business Program.

We take great pride in giving back to our local community, and being a helping hand close to home. Some of the organizations that we support with our time, expertise and financial contributions include Rancho Cielo for Kids at Risk, Ag Against Hunger, the Monterey County Food Bank, and the Anthony Narigi Hospitality Scholarship Fund assisting students working towards a career in the hospitality industry.
